Mylo Freeman is a Dutch-Afr.American writer and artist whose autonomous work is characterized by her love for color, fluid line and a strong emphasis on representation. Alongside her acclaimed career as a children'sbook writer and illustrator, she develops independent artworks that explore identity, diversity and the epressive power of the human figure. Freeman's art practice highlights her commitment to creating inclusive visual narratives and to pursuing a personal, intuitive artistic language.

The historical mammy embodied a system in which black women were forced to care of their slave-owners children while being denied the right to raise their own. That pattern still echoes today. Even now,it is mostly women from lower socio-economic backgrounds, many women of color or with migrant roots, who work as nannies, babysitters or domestic workers caring for the children of more privileged families.By bringing these histories into view, the work invites us to consider not only what has changed but what still needs to...
